Panoramic view from the Belvedere Tower

expired

Visitors can climb up the Belvedere panorama tower in Sonsbeek Park on the last Sunday of the month. When looking from the top you may see that spring is in the air. Belvedere is an Italian term and means ‘nice view’.

The Belvedere Tower was built in the nineteenth century by order of Baron Van Heeckeren, who was the owner of Sonsbeekpark at the time. Measuring originally 24 metres, the building was raised 5.60 metres in the 1950s to tower above the ever growing treetops.

The top of the tower rises 100 metres above Normal Amsterdam Water Level and reaches the same height as the Eusebius Tower in Arnhem’s city centre. The top platform in the open gives you a panoramic view of Arnhem and the surroundings. When the weather is clear you can see Nijmegen, Tiel and the German town of Emmerich. They will charge €1 for climbing the tower.
