NXP will supply the SmartMX security chip for German identity cards

NXP Semiconductors N.V. (Nasdaq: NXPI) will provide its safe microcontroller SmartMX chip to the German government. The chip will be processed and integrated with more than 60 million national identity cards.
The delivery of the chip will start in November 2010. The latest German
identity card is to replace the present paper version within ten years.
