Retrospective on Antonioni’s Art
LUX is to show a series of films directed by Michelangelo Antonioni (1912-2007)
He is one of the greats of Italian cinema, with films like La signora senze camelie, Blow-Up, Zabriskie Point, Professione: Reporter, and his famous trilogy L'Avventure, La notte and l'eclisse. His films are held to be typical 'author films’ in which the maker’s personality comes distinctly to the fore in style, theme and form. More than anyone else, Antonioni was able to portray the inability to communication, the 'mal de vivre' and impossible love. Antonioni’s films are filled with ‘what does not happen' and add further details to a modern world which he managed to register miraculously.
