ArtEZ presents new fashion talent at graduate shows
On 2 and 3 July 2009 ArtEZ Fashion Design students present their graduation collections during a series of spectacular fashion shows at the Arnhem Fashion Biennale. Each year again the students' creative talents and technical skills yield refreshing results.
For
years the Graduate Shows have been extremely popular with fashion journalists
and scouts from the international fashion industry coming to the shows in large
numbers. This is not surprising as the ArtEZ fashion department has been the
cradle of young Dutch fashion talent for more than fifty years. Who is not
familiar with designers duo Viktor & Rolf, trend watcher Lidewij Edelkoort
or Wilbert Das, creative director of international clothing company Diesel?
They all graduated at ArtEZ. Furthermore the Graduate Shows give third year
students the opportunity to exhibit their work in ‘Arnhem Collection’, a set
part of the programme.
In addition to Bachelor students the biennale also pays plenty of attention to
Master students. From 15 June to 19 June inclusive ArtEZ-students doing the Master
of Fashion, Design & Strategy (F,D&S) as well as Spanish students from
the Madrid Istituto Europeo di Design (IED) attend a workshop in the Arnhem
town hall under supervision of fashion duo Klavers van Engelen. The workshop is
themed around Virginia Woolfs ‘Orlando’ and the role of clothing in relation to
adolescence and identity. Just like the Master programme itself the workshop is
focused on the role of fashion in a social, cultural and industrial context. Following
the workshop its podcast files created by Master students of Fashion Journalism
(F,D&S) will become available.
