Housing is a problem in almost every student town. This is true for Dutch students, but coming from abroad makes it sometimes really hard to find a place to live. Many universities and academies therefore offer their help in this matter. It is even possible that a university has reserved some rooms for foreign students. Those housing facilities are sometimes furnished and upholstered, which is normally not the case when one finds a room to rent.

The best way to start the search for a room in Nijmegen is to sign up with Stichting Studenten Huisvesting Nijmegen <SSHN>, who manages - without pursuit of profit - around 5,000 housing units in Nijmegen. Unfortunately, the waiting lists are very long, so students often start looking on their own.
The city of Nijmegen also has a practical site with addresses and information on housing for students.

It is possible in Nijmegen to buy a room or small studio and pay a mortgage, which is sometimes less than the average rent.
