Science subjects get more appeal
Science education must shed its boring image and needs a brush-up. Does communication or information science put young people off? Not when they are called ‘Multimedia Design’, at least that is what HAN university thinks.
The university is doing everything to get young people interested in technical subjects. Ella Hueting, who leads the department of technology, thinks that scientists and science students in school and in the business sector are much too modest. They should show off how nice, interesting and fascinating their field is.
The university of professional education brings education to the attention of young people in an attractive way. It's not about subjects, but about themes, such as care, new media and the environment. These are the subjects that young people are interested in.
Students can keep their options open within these themes. When they opt for care subjects that could mean technology for medical equipment, developments in DNA research or medical devices for the handicapped. Environmental subjects may cover sustainability, energy saving or innovative fuel. And with a major in new media, Internet, mobile calling, serious gaming, chips in clothes and much more will be handled.
