Angling in a bigger pool
Schools and enterprises in the urban region of Arnhem and Nijmegen are in want of more technicians. But they must not all cast their fishing lines in the same small pool. It works better if they make the pool larger.
And this is exactly what ROC Rijn IJssel in Arnhem is doing. Making
students familiar with real-life business sectors in an early stage trains their
knowledge and skills. This makes their training course much nicer and more interesting.
And as a result, more young people will opt for technology, at least, that is
the idea behind it.
An example. The ‘Sound & Vision’ training course has its own
division at Rent-All in Bemmel, the company that takes care of lights and sounds
at events for which it is the European market leader. Students can use a part
of the warehouse to organise their own theatre, design a set or make light
plans. And they can use the latest Rent-All features.
Rent-All can call in the students at events. And so the company has some
extra stagehands while the students acquire the necessary experience.
ROC Rijn IJssel confers constantly with entrepreneurs about their wishes and their demands. That's how the educational system can have the closest possible connection with the real life. And an easier move-on from secondary to higher vocational education is also taken care of.
