Orientalis will send you into raptures
Museum park Orientalis, situated in Heilig Landstichting near Nijmegen, is more than just a museum, it is a place where people with different cultures and belief systems can meet. In doing so, Orientalis wants you to be part of a society in which friendship and respect replace fear and prejudice.
Museum park Orientalis offers a contemporary view on the three religions that played a decisive role in Europe’s current identity: Judaism, Christianity and Islam. Orientalis shows that there is more than the well-known area of tension between the three religions: a common origin, a shared history, related traditions, stories and rituals. It addresses the mayor questions of today, it provokes and inspires.
The museum park has five museological villages where all cultures and religions are portrayed that have their origin in the Middle-East. Each village represents a theme that is expressed in an inspiring manner. Multimedia are combined with period rooms and multi-storied houses. Actors regularly help bring the museological spaces come to life.
From 26 April to 31 August, an exhibition of photos on ECSTASY pilgrimages in Christianity and Islam can be admired in Museumpark Orientalis. The exhibition shows two series of photos on special pilgrimages. Pilgrimages are of all ages and cultures. From time immemorial people with a specific world view go to places that represent something exceptional. Even today, millions of people all over the world go to well-known or lesser-known places to pray, worship, honour, receive, admire or get enlightened. A key feature of the photo exhibition is the exaltation of pilgrims when they reach their destination of the religious journey: sheer ECSTASY.
