Accessible in all respects

Arnhem Nijmegen Cool Region is accessible via an extensive network of roads. It lodges sustainable industrial estates and its digital accessibility is also in place.

Cool Region's national and international ambitions can only be realised if there is proper infrastructure. The Urban Region has already put up a nice performance, especially abroad, but is still working on improvement.

Motorways A12 and A50 will be broadened in the next few years and the A15 will be extended to the A12. The railway network is being stretched and further modernised. Light-trains will guarantee fast connections between districts and smaller towns.

Regional traffic management will result in a better accessibility. This is further enhanced by extending the bicycle lane network to encourage commuters to leave the car at home. Nijmegen is eagerly looking forward to the construction of the second city bridge on the River Waal in 2011.

Industrial estates can count on being connected to national and international networks of broadband glass fibre. The estates are being more and more developed in a sustainable way. This means that the twenty Cool Region municipalities entered into agreements about using the space with care, the emission of CO2 and combating long-term vacancy of buildings.

The economic activities of regional importance are clustered in the area between the A73, A15 and A12 arteries.
