Rozendaal: small and dainty / Golden village in green
The municipality of Rozendaal with over 1,500 inhabitants is not only the smallest municipality in the region, but even in the whole of the Netherlands, not including the isles. The high standard of living is very important to this magnificent village located at the edge of the forest-rich hills of the Veluwe area. Not so long ago, Rozendaal was awarded the title of ‘greenest village of Europe’, which is partly due to the nature of the Veluwe National Park, where you can walk and cycle for hours without a car in sight.
The ancient-old Rosendael Castle is the former residence of the counts and dukes of Gelre. As far back as the 17th century, Rosendael Park was the prime example of elegant landscaping. ‘Een groen hemeltjen op aerd’ (A green heaven on earth), as well-known poet and statesman Constantijn Huygens phrased it in 17th century Dutch. You can find special statues called bedriegertjes (literally: deceivers), a tea summer house and a shell gallery in the park.
Due to its historic town hall and superb environment, Rozendaal is a much-loved location for weddings. The four most wanted spots are: the town hall, the castle, The Hunting Lodge and the Church of Rozendaal.
Rozendaal is small but dainty and has a number of special places:
- The Hunting Lodge, a wonderful, trendy restaurant, often used for weddings and meetings;
- Medinova, Klein Rosendael Clinic offers personal, high-quality care concerning (plastic) surgery and orthopedics;
- Rozenheuvel Hospital, for the last stage of life, provides care for the body, mind and soul.
