The municipality of Beuningen
Part of the Rijk van Nijmegen region
In its current form the municipality of Beuningen is relatively young: in 1980 the villages of Beuningen, Weurt, Ewijk and Winssen were combined to one single municipality which stretches along the southern bank of the Waal. Weurt, the most eastern residential area of the municipality, borders on Nijmegen; Winssen can be reached via Beuningen and Ewijk.
Quality Growth Municipality
Currently the municipality numbers at least 25,000 residents. This figure will grow in the years to come because of many new houses that will be built in the municipality. By allowing ample space for water and greenery a completely new spatial image has been created. The character of the villages guarantees a good living climate. Besides, the arrival of new residents gives the rich club life in the municipality an extra boost.
Present and Past
The municipality of Beuningen borders on Nijmegen. The social and cultural life of the university city with its rich past is within reach of the residents from Beuningen. Apart from that, Beuningen offers a lovely rural living environment with centuries-old farms, mills and a castle. These are reminders of the rural life of bygone days. Beuningen does everything possible to preserve these historic monuments that give each of the four villages its own unique character. The villages are also characterized by the natural environment of the Waal with its washlands and meandering dikes. This large, open and to a large extent still unspoiled area attracts cyclists and ramblers from all over the region.
