The city of Arnhem
Source of creativity, inspiration and prominent innovation. That is what Arnhem wants to be, as well for its own residents as for (tourist) visitors and businesses. That these are not just empty words is proven by all kinds of examples of extraordinary Arnhem achievements such as its prominent position in the area of Energy and Environment Technology, the “Ocean” at Burgers’ Zoo, the Sonsbeek International Sculpture Exhibition 2008, and the prestigious subterranean extension of the ArtEz Institute of the Arts. Successes the city is proud of!
Arnhem knows how to put itself on the map in different areas. Events such as the World Statues Festival and the Fashion Biennale have contributed to the fact that the city may call itself the fifth Best City of Events 2008. The city centre is also appreciated. Its cozy and friendly atmosphere make the city attractive. But also its diversity in the hotel and catering industry, cultural and shopping possibilities combined with the historic surroundings are appreciated. Altogether this has earned Arnhem the title “Best city centre of the Netherlands.” A city which is easily accessible by car, with ample parking in the centre and an important stop on the High-Speed track between the Randstad and the Ruhr area. Within a few years the futuristic OV-terminal will also be finished, which will allow Arnhem to prove itself as transport junction in the east of the Country.
Its location surrounded by nature, between the National Park “De Hoge Veluwe” and the washlands of the Rhine and the Betuwe area, also makes Arnhem a very attractive city to live in, with in the north stately old neighbourhoods with classical houses from the twenties and thirties and in the south space for new housing development and new residents.
Entrepreneurs and businesses find in Arnhem an excellent business climate. In the area of Energy and Environment Technology Arnhem has a leading position, but also entrepreneurs in, for example, the creative sector find many kindred spirits and many platforms to exchange ideas. And so we come full circle, because it is Arnhem’s ambition to be a creative and innovative city with room for prominent innovation.
