The Arnhem Nijmegen City Region has a population of over 720,000. It is the third largest urban agglomeration of the Netherlands and has nearly 700 inhabitants per square kilometre.
The largest city, Nijmegen, has more than 2,800 inhabitants per square kilometre. Until 2025, the number of inhabitants living in the Arnhem Nijmegen City Region is expected to grow by another 4.3 percent.
The Region’s inhabitants live in twenty municipalities. All numbers stated are as of 1 January 2007.

Nearly 15 percent of the population of Arnhem Nijmegen City Region is older than 65 years. This is almost the same figure as the country’s average. There are slightly less young people between the ages of 0 and 19 years: 23.2 percent for this Region compared to 24 percent for the whole of the Netherlands. Over 62 percent of the population is between 20 and 65 years old; slightly higher than for the rest of the Netherlands. Most people between the ages of 25 and 45 live in the cities of Arnhem and Nijmegen.
