THREE CENTURIES OF LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE. The gardens of Middachten (7 ha) were first created in the seventeenth century. The development of landscape architecture in three centuries can be found back in the formal layout of the garden, with a garden wall framed with trained trees and outer castle moats. The garden surrounds the castle and is divided into various ‘green chambers’’, or rather, open-air chambers, including the low garden with annuals blooming in summer, the circular borders of perennials, the ‘green theatre’, the rose garden, the thickets and a grass tennis court bordered with rambling roses and enclosed by a trellis unique in the Netherlands. The gardens are open to the public from 15 May to 15 September.

Burgers' Zoo in the Netherlands is a very large zoo. It has is a completely covered 1,5 ha tropical rainforest where hundreds of animals live freely among thousands of tropical plants. Burger’s Desert is a rock desert area with giant cactuses and unusual desert animals. In Burger’s Ocean, the visitor makes a dry dive into the tropical seas of South East Asia, with its many corals, colourful coral fish, sharks and thornbacks. Burger’s Safari shows a, East African savannah landscape, with herds of zebra, giraffe, antelope, and even rhinoceros, lions and cheetahs.
Mozart(k)ring Gelre-Niederrhein
The main objective of the cross-border organisation Mozart Circle ‘Mozart (K)ring Gelre-Niederrhein’ is to offer young, talented, budding and already acknowledged musicians the opportunity to play music by Mozart and his contemporaries for an enthusiastic audience. The concerts are given at several different interesting locations in and around Nijmegen, in Arnhem/Oosterbeek or in Kranenburg/Osterbeek/Goch (Germany) and surroundings. The concerts offer an all round programme that may include a tour through the city where the concert is given, a walk, a visit to a museum and often topped off with dinner. Artistic Expression “De kunstuiting” in Nijmegen is an enterprise that conducts workshops on sculpting, and also sells stones, tools and materials for sculpting.
